Abstract

The internal carotid artery (ICA) is the one of the most stable arteries. Congenital anomalies of the ICA have not frequently been reported. Moreover, there was no clear association between hypoplastic carotid artery and the occurrence of cerebral ischemia according to the literatures. A 49-year-old man was admitted with vague discomfort in both right upper and lower limbs for 1 year. Neurologic examination was normal. MR angiography and transfemoral carotid angiography revealed hypoplasia of the left internal carotid artery and collateral channels to the left middle cerebral artery through the anterior communicating artery.
